I never ever previously realized the gauntlets and couters came on and off when Guts fights as the berserker! Wow! Guess I'm blind. I already had the impression the armor was somewhat 'alive', but that and realizing the "black shroud" is very much a literal, active element and not an artistic stylistic one solidified it for me.
