Diablo 4 + Berserk

A Diablo + Berserk collaboration was announced by Blizzard through a 30-second video today. The details we have so far are: "Coming soon to Diablo IV and Diablo Immortal."

We talked about it in the chat, and while it doesn't look like much, this is pretty significant brand recognition for Berserk compared to the usual cross-promotions they arrange (primarily Japanese mobile game). I think it says something that Berserk got this (admittedly very small) spotlight for a relatively mainstream game.

The whole thing likely amounts to merely a skin for the Barbarian class, maybe the Dragon Slayer? We'll see in a week or so when more details drop.

If anything can bring @Griffith back it's this, right?!

Straight from the pages of Kentaro Miura’s beloved dark fantasy, the threads and armors of iconic characters from Berserk can soon be yours.

Set in a medieval, dark fantasy world, Berserk centers on themes of betrayal, revenge, sacrifice, and monstrous power. Celebrate Berserk with limited-time cosmetics you can earn and collect so your characters can walk in the footsteps of these legendary figures. Don relics of war, symbols of ambition, echoes of vengeance. Wear them and become a part of the legend.

On May 6, Kentaro Miura’s iconic manga comes to life within the bloodied chaos of Estuar. Visit the in-game shop and defeat powerful demons to earn darkly glorious in-game cosmetics worthy of the Black Swordsman.

He stands as coughs rack his body, contorting his heavily wounded frame, streaking the snow crimson. Between shocks of pain, Femto’s unyielding rage burns bright in his mind. He struggles, leaning on a sword almost too big to be called a sword. Too big, too thick, too heavy, and too rough, more like a hunk of iron.

He scans his surroundings; mountainous peaks fracture the sky. Smoke rises in the distance to anchor this moonless night. He breathes and steadies himself, his eye catching a most curious artifact amidst the blood-streaked frost. A small egg with the makings of a face writhes in agony, a silent cry of anguish escaping its lips. He listens as the roar of frenzied monsters fill the air, his Brand of Sacrifice bleeding from their demonic presence. He grins contended, for he’ll hunt and kill all those wretched monsters. Down to the last one.

Slay Demons; Earn Behelits

Slaying powerful elite enemies in-game has a chance to drop sinister Behelits, oviod creatures which grant audience to powerful demons capable of terrible sacrifice. These Behelits can be collected and then used to earn Berserk themed cosmetics.

Trade in Behelits to the Berserk Reliquary to claim items befitting the will of Godhand themselves. Claim the Hawks Destiny Back trophy, which houses the shackles that once held the fallen knight Griffith captive, the honorable Skull Knight’s Heraldry Mount Armor, or the cursed Brand of Sacrifice Marking.

The Foretold Eclipse Headstone evokes the great sacrifice that devoured the Band of the Hawk to exalt their most trusted Commander, Griffith.

Upon seizing all items in this Reliquary, you’ll earn the Od of the Berserker Emblem, a potent symbol that aligns with the unflinching violence of its wearer.

Claim Iconic Armor in the in-game Shop

The loyalty of the ill-fated Band of the Hawk’s Mercenaries was only matched by their bravery in combat. Become the legend of the Black Swordsman and don the Barbarian’s Berserker Armor, avenge your fallen brethren as you swear vengeance on Femto while cleaving demons by the hundred. As a Necromancer, wear the finery of The Skull Knight, the ancient enigma, eternal foe of the inhumans. Wander together next to Chimimoryo Schnoz Pet, the oddity of the Astral Plane.

You have from May 6 to the end of Season 8: Belial’s Return to visit the in-game Shop to alter your destiny and secure these cosmetics for your own.

“These two... are not yet destined to die. There is no time.” - Skull Knight, following the events of the Eclipse

To celebrate the collision of Diablo IV and Kentaro Miura’s Berserk, we will have a Support a Streamer initiative for the Skull Behelit Mount Trophy. For more information related on how to earn this otherworldly cosmetic, stay tuned for a future blog.

You did well to reach this far, reader. It would seem this is one of the ends.

Struggle, endure, contend, for that alone is the sword of one who defies death.

Thanks for the update, Aaz. Okay, so... definitely more than a skin. But now I kind of wish there was way, WAY less happening with this crossover.

To start with, did you all catch the date this event starts? It's May 6—the day Kentaro Miura died. This is how they're celebrating it, I guess? I was laughing at some of these things, until that dawned on me. Then it colored the whole event in a different way.

That is... until I saw that The Schnoz has his very own DLC now! Wow ! That means "The Schnoz" is OFFICIAL, and as the one who christened him, I'm now in Complete and Total Support of This In-Game Event! (checks bank account for impending royalty payments).

No less than FOUR skins... and a pet bundle! :isidro:

Yeah, I didn't pay attention at first, but it's pretty tasteless to release it on that date.

You're practically a coauthor for the series now, just like Mori!

I had the same reaction:

"So, it's more than a Barbarian - Berserk skin, cool"

"Wow, Skully included!"

"Wait, May 6?.."

"God damn it is THE SCHNOZ oh my god"
.

The mount is also cool, but a Skull Knight Horse would be way more.
Everything looks well designed and very cool, really wish I had the time to dedicate to the complete event, collecting Behelits was a nice catch.

I'm a fan o Blizzard and I think they always pay attention to details, but they should have someone that's really a fan inside to convince them that a Schnoz pet would be awesome, if you're in this Blizzard team and you're reading this: Thank you!

Forgot to post the longer version of the animated trailer:

And as a bonus, a music video for the song "Enter the Behelit" by "Beast in Black" that's apparently part of that collaboration on the Blizzard side:

Apparently the prices on these cosmetics are through the roof.

Costumes are sold separately (no bundle). I'm converting these prices from Diablo 4's platinum currency—

Each costume costs around $25.
The Schnoz pet on its own is $35.
The total cost for all items is around $150.

Anyway... Prices aside, this isn't how I’d have wanted to introduce Berserk to a mainstream audience. None of these promotional videos are very in-keeping with the tone and feel of Berserk. But as an advertisement for the series, this is reaching a bigger Western audience than what they were doing before, so maybe it’s a good thing I’m not in charge?

What about the thing about collecting behelits? I though it would be possible to earn some of the items with them

Beherits buy you a separate set of items through a "reliquary" shop. Then there are the costume sets, available in the shop for platinum.

I see that there's also some things available to Diablo Immortal(the mobile game) including a Zodd boss.

And a different cinematic, didn't liked much that one but it seems they spent more money on it:

There's also a gameplay trailer with all details, seems that the mobile game is getting way more things than Diablo IV, that shows what Blizzard priority rely on..

Oh, so Zodd made it into mobile, and they made his level look like the one from Vol 5. That's kinda neat. And those golems are cute. Thanks for sharing!
