Episode 380

What is y'all's prediction on when guts is going to do something significant? Chapter 400?
Hopefully never, as it would undoubtedly be a disaster. However, I’d guess that once Schierke returns from her days-long (?) absence in the corporeal world, she will convey information to Guts about Casca that will kickstart him again. So... in the next few episodes? :troll:

The thing is they know where she's holed up, why would she need to go through all that trouble? going all that way to just say "hey guts, casca is alive" would be stupid and completely pointless. Someone said something similar in the chatroom a little while back and if she doesn't come out with any additional information then it's just fruitless

I had the tiniest glimpse of hope and positivity when they showed guts in the middle of the chapter and not in the last few pages only for it to be immediately ruined by near character assassination of guts and the pointless death of rakshas.

Whatever the last episode will be, when he finally and literally jumps into action and does a heroic leap 500 vertical feet into the air and up a tower made of faces in the shape of a giant hand. Because it's like, symbolic of the Eclipse or something. Then he will swing his sword at Femto and, without explanation for how it happened this time but not on Skellig, land a hit that chops the God Hand member neatly in half. Then Guts falls down dead himself for some reason. Maybe because all that fighting spirit drained his lifeforce, or he miraculously got AIDS, or something. We'll never know and the committee that wrote it won't care.

Thinking about Guts character assassination, had me reflecting on how other characters were handled. Griffith had a mischievous smile at the end of Chapter 370, like a 'haha fuck you Guts, stole Casca and you couldnt do nothing'. Post-eclipse, his character was shown to be very emotionless and empty, beyond attributing his emotions to the Moonlight boy on the Hill of Swords. Those smug feelings, sure aren't the Moonlight boys. I was afraid all nuance on characters would be lost, never expected retconning.

don't give them ideas:magni:
im also getting heavy star wars sequels vibes from this and while i don't think berserk continuation is that bad it certainly can become something similar if they don't change course of action.

How is studio gaga when it comes to fans' criticism and feedback? Do they listen to us?

Honestly i never thought about that and was never that critical of the early continuation chapters, but that does make sense. That smirk is rather odd, but we know that he, as a moonlight boy and as Griffith was still attached to Casca since he still has that demon fetus part of him, so maybe he smirks because he's glad that they're reunited..? or am i just coping here?

Your "hopefully never" comment reminded me that, for some reason, i got a feeling that this whole continuation might be cancelled or significantly shortened/rushed than was initially planned. I only started getting this feeling recently. Anyone else feels that something like that might happen?

I agree with Aazealh and Scott Rugeles in that I think it's not going to happen,. Though it was introduced as a weapon technique against the God Hand, the beherit-sword's purpose was ultimately subverted by Femto. So in my opinion, that card has been played.

However, many have toyed with the idea over the years, and there's one that I like hypothetically: In a final act of self-sacrifice, SK could urge Guts to plunge the DS through him, giving Guts' sword the same properties as the beherit-sword, but killing SK in the process. And while that could work ... it still doesn't feel quite right, to me. :shrug:In the end, I don't think the crucial turning point will be a surprise weapon technique. I feel like Casca and the boy have an important role to play in bringing down Femto.

Similarly, there are endless theories about WHO WILL USE GUTS' BEHERIT online. But similarly, I really don't think it's going to be a conventional usage. What would be the point? Miura will have had something special in mind for this beherit, which has been with him since the beginning, and it won't just be another sacrifice.
Please forgive me if my idea below is stupid.
This continuation is going nowhere, so it might be the best time to post it.
So...

It might be weird but I don't even think that killing Griffith would seal the deal.

It would lessen the influence of the God Hand a lot, by killing the only member which has a physical body.
On the other hand, all of the people at Falconia would be at the mercy of the apostles.
And the remaining members would still be alive.

I think Miura would have played with the idea of the behelit behind used to take the Dragon Path and go to the Abyss, where Guts, Skully and other characters could inflict direct damage into the God Hand members.
Guts did talk something about "hitting 'em where it hurts" when he was at Flora's house.

Also, I think the idea to kill Griffith would involve attacking him when he is most vulnerable.
That is...when there's a fullmon and he's transformed into Moonlight Boy.

Yes, that would be very gruesome and it would be very painful for Guts and Casca.
And yet, I think it's the only way to directly kill him.
It would be their ultimate sacrifice in order to restore some amount of "peace".

Though it might not be the best idea.
We don't know for sure if killing the Moonlight Boy would kill Griffith.
And we don't know if the Boy is that vulnerable as well.

I think Miura would have explained something about this.

Partially related, another idea I've seen online (I don't remember where) and that could the stretch the story a lot, is that before attacking Griffith, they would force him to reveal his true colors to the people of Falconia.
Him appearing as Femto and getting his past being exposed, along with the knowledge that Pandemonium exists just behind the city (I don't think most people from the city know about it), could cause a heavy conflict in Falconia.

This wouldn't make the task of killing a God Hand directly that much easier.
However, he would lose the faith of the people he tricked to build his kingdom.
If he starts to lose his kingdom, he is forced to act in a way to regain this faith.
And it is in this very act that he may do something imprudent, something that makes him more vulnerable and susceptible to fail.

It hurts though because for me all of this doesn't really matter anymore.
I miss Miura so much man.

How is studio gaga when it comes to fans' criticism and feedback? Do they listen to us?

They read the feedback. What they make of it though, I can't say.

maybe he smirks because he's glad that they're reunited..? or am i just coping here?

100% coping. It's meant to be an evil smirk.

for some reason, i got a feeling that this whole continuation might be cancelled or significantly shortened/rushed than was initially planned. I only started getting this feeling recently. Anyone else feels that something like that might happen?

I don't think so.

Yeah it got to a point where I rather pretend this is just a bad joke because Guts simply doesn't exist anymore, he died with Miura

I'm also pretty sure there will be some projects trying to recreate Miuras'vision

Also I can't help but wonder what the casual readers are thinking about all this, I mean, in Reddit they were still getting excited with recent releases from what I remember

I've noticed the reactions to new episodes always seem positive on Reddit and elsewhere, but at the same time there is a complete dearth of ongoing discussion about them.

It almost seems like fake enthusiasm, or like the reaction is "oh wow that's neat", and then it's out of their brains forever.

Can you imagine the difference if Miura had just dealt with a major apostle? I doubt people would shut up about for months (if ever)

Near character assassination? What would it take for a full assassination? Should he cuddle with elves or assist Charlotte baking cakes for Griffith?

Our Guts is long gone.
I'm not saying it's a full character assassination because for the last few episodes he appears to be in some sort of fever state, so maybe in his clear mind he would've tried to fight Rakshas. But again, maybe I'm just coping here:judo:

I'm reading it again and something caught my eye.
I might be wrong, because I don't know too much on how magic works in Berserk.
But isn't Falconia too far to use an astral projection like that?

Even if using the World Tree to get there, I tought this would be harder, since she is too far away.
Also, if this is really easy to do, the mages from (the now destroyed) Elfhelm or even Dannan would just use astral projections as well to saw what was happening in Falconia.

Apart from this, do you guys think they will show what the God Hand members (besides Griffith/Femto) are doing or not?
I personally think they will, but seeing where things are going (nowhere), I don't know if I really want to see that...

Yes, it is. But they probably think that they're not contraddicting anything because this isn't a normal astral projection, but a "magic ritual" that they came up with for this specific situation.

Maybe they will, maybe not. It won't be good either way. We don't even know why Griffith is heading East, and I'm sure it'll never be addressed.

I addressed that when it first came up. Feel free to check it out. The Continuation team generally doesn't seem to understand how magic works in Berserk.

Trying to predict what the Continuation will do next is a perillous exercise, but I would be surprised if they were featured extensively.

We don't even know why Griffith is heading East, and I'm sure it'll never be addressed.

To destroy the mighty Kushan empire of course. The greatest threat to his rule!

I was also reading 376 again, and I found it ironic that there was an illustration of a perfectly fine Guts and also Puck looking at the Kushan Lands.
Did they change their minds about what to do?
Was it just an illustration to make Guts look cool?
Or is it they seeing the Lands one more time before they go (possibly) to Falconia in the next episode?

This is very odd considering the (final bit of) character assassination they did in ep 380.

Thanks, I will check it out.

Then it's too convenient.
Though, I guess "convenience" is indeed a good word for that's happening a lot in this continuation.

I think Griffith is heading East to destroy the Kushans.
Perhaps it is the last bit of resistance against him.

Next up: The crystal beherit is activated and Falconia becomes an island. Second half of the episode is a relaxing fishing scene. :griffnotevil:

Seriously, what are they even going to do? Double the number of troops they send?

"The episode opens with a color illustration showing Guts and Puck overlooking the city. It's fine for what it is, but it's worth noting that it's pure fiction even within the continuation itself, which is a bit odd even for a project chock full of oddities. Taking artistic liberties is fine but there's a point where it diverges so much it becomes weird. The last one was also like that, it showed Sonia and Erika having a stroll with the group in Elfhelm. I guess these are essentially just marketing material and not meant to be viewed as part of the story. Not sure it's the best use of resources, but what do I know."

I think it very simply comes down to the Continuation team having no idea what to do. So they looked at what happened before in the story, saw that Ganishka had defied Griffith with a giant army, and figured it would "feel like Berserk" if they copied that.

I imagine or at least hope that they have some kind of a twist coming, and that it won't just be magicians using the formation of the four cardinal points as an attack spell to somehow give the Kushans the edge while Silat outmaneuvers Griffith. I'm not taking any bets, though.

Either a new spell that does comically huge damage, or is somehow extremely convenient, in their exact situation, that for some reason wasn't used on the island will be invented, or they'll use the four points, only for them to forget that it does damage 2 or 3 pages later like with the ''trolls''.

I think it very simply comes down to the Continuation team having no idea what to do. So they looked at what happened before in the story, saw that Ganishka had defied Griffith with a giant army, and figured it would "feel like Berserk" if they copied that.
At this point they probably forgot that even an army of 200,000 was completely useless, and will just do the same thing again (maybe it'll be 400,000 this time, that'll work!). But this time, it'll somehow be super effective because ''We're tough!!''.

does anybody else think that the sorcerers will somehow "get their magic back" in the future? I don't really see the reason why Mori would just have all these characters just hanging around with no powers whatsoever, other than making his job easier. Because if they do get their powers back, I don't understand why Griffith would just let them live.
I forgot that I said this back when 374 came out. Well, now I got my answer! :ganishka:
