That's very sad. Although I don't think a routine checkup would warn him of an aortic dissection, assuming he had no symptoms (like chest pains, in which case he should have visited the doctor for chest pains). But if he had high blood pressure yearly checkups could have caught that early. Personally, I think everyone, even younger people should buy one of those cheap home blood pressure monitors and check their BP occasionally. Ain't no other way to catch high BP as it's usually completely asymptomatic, and while yearly checkups are the right idea and there's really not a single good excuse I can think for not doing them... a lot of people, myself included, are still just too lazy/callous/Idontevenknowwhat to bother.
