What's your favorite video games?

It had a great beginning,
agreed ;D

but it got boring for me.  Most of the game is spent wandering around untill you happen to arrive at your destination.  It's not like "we should go 'here,' it's that way," it's like "we should go 'here,' but we have no clue in which direction 'here' is."
thats what the map was for

There are also an unnecessary amount of side quest
i thought the sidequest's actually added to the story and made it just that much better.

I can't believe Mormegil is the only one hear that likes Smash! So, I'll have to second you on that!

Smash Melee, in my opinion, is one of the greatest damn fighters ever created. I know the general public think it's a kiddy game, with no strategy, but as someone who's an avid gamer, I think those that haven't played too much of Smash should give it a shot! =).
i just recently started to really play SSBM
and I'm finding out that it really is a great game

i just had a question for you guys? are there any games your looking forward to coming out?

oh yeah I'm also going to buy Earthbound soon. so thanks to Lee and Void Swordsman for talking about it. it seems like a really great game from what i have read about it.

and for everyone that loves strategy games (i love strategy games) Age of Empires 3 is set to be released 11/01/05

i really enjoyed the first two.

talking about strategy games, have any of you ever played a game called "Heroes Of Might And Magic" ?

3 was the best IMHO! 4 had something going but the lack of Multi-player capabilities on released was a BIG let down. :'(

dude 3 is amazing. and as for 4 i only played it like once and never got a chance to play it with any of the expansion packs. and i cant find them anywhere except for online. and one of the expansion packs is around $40-$50. i know its rare and everything but come on. i swear i wish 3do didn't go out of business.

The PS2 only has so much RAM.

RAM doesn't fix bugs or enhance gameplay. It also doesn't make explosions more violent.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow is the game I'm awaiting the most. Otherwise, various NDS titles and the next Zelda on GC (though I don't actually have a GC).

I liked HoMM 2 and 3 the most, and I think I preferred 2 overall. HoMM4 was tedious IMHO, even with the multiplayer.

In terms of strategy games, my favorite is probably the Fire Emblem series. Fire Emblem: Chronology of Holy War (聖戦の系譜) was probably the best IMHO.

They just released the newest iteration on the GC (1st for 3-D and voiceovers :o), called 蒼炎の軌跡、and I've been playing through it and getting quite hooked.

both of you have no clue what your talking about ;)
FINAL FANTASY VII is one, if not the single best video game ever created.thats exactly what I'm saying.

I don't know, I'm one of the few people who says that FF8 is better than FF7. Also, this was probably discussed before, but I believe parts of the story were taken from Berserk, that's why it's so great ;D.

Also, about Chrono Trigger, I don't really see why it's so great. I recently started playing it from FFChronicles, and I find myself liking FF4 more than Chrono Trigger, so I want to know why so many people think it's godly.

Someday the reckoning shall come, and the 2D sprite awesomeness of SNK will crash upon you like the bottom falling from heaven! And the AES shall lead you into the light, and all will return to beginning!

So yeah, Metal Slug was pretty great too. Samurai Spirits, Art of Fighting, KoF and Last Blade one one system! I mean, COME ON. Someone also needs to tell Miyamoto that SNK had an analog stick (albeit more of a "joy stick") about six years before Nintendo, so if anything SNK should be laughing at them (even if they did only use a 1x CD drive...)

You're right man, I fuckin love SNK!!! Their best games are Metal Slug (which I think is the best platformer game made in existence!!!) and Last Blade. I found samurai showdown waay too hard for me. But you're right, awesome 2D graphics need a comeback and they need to show everybody what they've been missing.

I definitely enjoyed Chrono Trigger more than FF4, but perhaps because (both of) my cartridge(s) kept wiping my saves on it......

But FF6 is definitely my favorite of the FF series.

On a side note: I once entered into an internationally wide Smash tournament (a year ago), and I lost first two rounds (double elimination). It was pretty pathetic, but I was playing against the best of the best. Japan was there too, actually, one of them captured 2nd place.
Smash is really fun till your friends buy it and get really good at it, and you're still a noob. Plus, there are ome really lame strategies that you can utilize with Samus and her heat seeking missiles and various long range attacks (including her punches). The maps also have too many distractions, and items just piss me off, since they make luck play too much into the fighting. It is truly the pinacle of party gaming, but once your friends buy it and get unbeatable, it's really just annoying, because then it's not really a party game anymore.

fix bugs I don't know why I wrote that one. RAM alone won't fix these things, but when coupled with good programming and game design, it extends the possibilities much farther.

Enough with my arguing though.

As for games I'm looking forward to, I have a few. First of, Phantsy Star Universe is probably at the top of my list. They seem to have improved the battle system a lot so it will involve a lot more skill, and be less MMO-ish (i.e., we trade blows till one of us dies).
I'm also looking forward to Drakengard 2. This game was given a major facelift. Here's the JP site, since there's no news about an english release: http://www.square-enix.co.jp/games/ps2/dod2/contents.html
Also on my list is Darkwatch, since it shows a lot of promise.
Killer 7 is also on the list, just because it's so bizzarre.
Finally, there's the new Legend of Zelda game for obvious reasons.

It's no Berserk, sorry it was a bit tempting.

FF8 and FF6 were the only Square games I ever thought were all that great.

On the issue of PS3, I really don't want to get it, but I really want to see the ending of the MGS series. Maybe theres some way around it...?

i know i was really close to saying it lol

Old games are great, but I've never really been a Frogger fan, I mean, I dodge traffic every day, don't really need a game for it.

thats pretty funny, did you know I was a paperboy? I really hate that job so much, such an anti social job, and you need to annoy people.

now here is a game that could make someone lose their mind :P.
as can the job, having dogs constantly bite you in the ass doesn't help self esteem.

I'm glad someone else here shares my love for 2D. Anyway, I think we're a dying breed; these days it's all about Guilty Gear and mindless repackaged Street Fighters; I would really love to see some SNK ports to the DS. Really, the GBA couldn't have handled some of the later arcade games, and the thought of playing Metal Slug with the stylus is appealing. And Samurai Spirits RPG DS wouldn't be half bad, either.

Yes, we NEED more 2D games. Even though stuff like a 3D metroid is awesome, I much preferred the 2d Variety. I'd also like to see some console games that use vector art (like in flash or illustrator, not just 3D). I think one could do some pretty cool stuff with it.

I don't know, Guilty Gear's pretty sick. Also, Marvel vs Capcoms are pretty sick games. lol, I own with Wolverine and Spiderman.

Truer words have never been spoken.

I love Marvel vs Capcom 2 and SNK vs Capcom 2..... There are only a handful of people that can beat me at SNK vs Capcom 2.... maybe cause its not really popular any more... :'(

yeah i love Marvel vs Capcom also. my team was Venom(of course lol) and Wolverine.

oh yeah, like two days ago i seen some sick ass Screens for Age of Empires 3 and all i have to say is this HOLYSHIT :o if you guys want to check it out go to gamefaqs or something.

well honestly its a really cool game and has diffrent endings. so that was really cool, but i really don't think it has the entire RPG depth of Final Fantasy 7.

*EDIT*

as a matter of fact I'm playing Final Fantasy 7 right now

What made it great were innovations and tons of fun stuff to do. It looked like a battle was actually happening instead of one side taking a step forward slashing the air and a number appearing above an enemy's head. Depth wise Final Fantasy 7 wasn't incredible but it was innovative in some aspect which have since been done to death. Xenogears was much deeper than Final Fantasy 7 but you could get depressed. FF7 is fun because it has an interesting story, plenty of twists and had great graphics for its day. This was, of course, before the full power of the PSX was brought to bear.

and Final Fantasy had surpassed Chrono Trigger in both innovative ideas and depth

in FF7 you slashed the enemy during the battle

dude it is considered the turning point in RPG's it is considered the single most innovative RPG of all time. if you would like i can like about a good 20 things . well just in case you would like a few now.

1.the Materia system
2. the story line
3. http://www.gamespot.com/ps/rpg/finalfantasy7/review.html
(i think 3 should be good enough of a responce.) just in case you need more just ask ;D

it was not even close to FF7  ::)
and for saying such a thing i am now depressed :'(  lol j/k

i think what you meant to write was an "amazing story, tons and tons of twists and great graphics for its day." but its ok i wont hold it against you

anyway while we are on the subject of Final Fantasy. IMHO i believe FF11 to be the best MMORPG out there

oh and talking about MMORPG's i just played one yesterday called  Guild Wars. it had really cool graphics and sound. i didn't get a chance to play it for long though. i also heard a rumor that it might be free internet play. I'm not sure does anyone have any info on that?
