Why?? why?? why the slaughter of ewoks?!?! noooooo
uh, that was not olivier. that was "jeadeau" who has the same picture as olivier. well, all in all, that 32 year old guy is dumb because i should care what teenagers do because i am one. but i do agree with what he says about music. it all sucks!!!!!!!!
each band is just copying another while the music quality gradually goes down. i prefer old music to new music anytime. and i like disco and funk. im not your av-a-rage bear...er, teenager. oh yeah i changed my website too!

give me a break..am I dumb because I think today's youth is nothing but idiots? I mean look at the trends you guys start ..Scream movies, Candy Pop , crappy metal bands, gay ass rock/rap music, Freddie Prinze Jr, Clothes with drawstrings all over them..I mean I can go on and on. Sure when I was a teen we were all stupid to but atleast all the mass producers of music, movies etc did not cater directly to the teen market as they do now. Disco? please.

Thats a little harsh Judeau. This is the fault of the exponential media expansion in the late 21st century, not mindless teenagers. Media today affects every crevice of our lives, and as such things are marketed to us everywhere we turn our eyes. It was only a matter of time before things like Tamagatchi's, Old Navy commercials, Carson Daly (sorry Carson..) and Insane Clown Posse became culturally accepted things.

Short answer: If you can market it, market it.

thank you, walter.

all the things you listed i hate. pay attention! i am a slacker. i wear very plain clothes. i actually enjoy reading. drawstings are stupid. slipknot shall die when the 3 largest planets align. and yes i do enjoy disco, because it actually has a rhythm and doesn't involve the words "dirty pop" or "i am a big gay heavy metal band of stupidity". what trends do i start? i don't even follow trends. and explain 8-tracks!!! you started that heavy metal crap with kiss several years before i was born, and punk too. so don't talk to me, talk to my stupid trend-following peers.

Dave Matthews Band SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! awful music, just like the grateful dead. completely useless.

Give me techno anyday!

As for the way teenagers are, they don't necessarily create their images. Many just buy what old people push on to them. When they do create a new image then it is sucked up by the marketing corporate machines and churned out for mass comsumption. God just look at GAP adds and their crappy commercials.

I apologise Walter if I was harsh..being called dumb kinda puts me in that frame of mind. I do agree that people will buy whatever is the "it" things for the time ( back in the 70's it was decal shirts and bell bottoms along with Disco music..remember the Disco duck? ahhh*head explodes* ) and that the trend will continue after I am dead.

Although, if people did not buy the crap then we would not get a million variations of the same products/media.

Lucky for us we found Berserk ( and other anime/manga ) because it is only going to get worse.

Today's Yamaba?
how did that line go in MIB?

"a person or an individual may be smart and perceptive, but people are stupid, dumb, cowardly, xenophoic, prejudiced, hateful, blind, foolish, pathetic, witless, ignorant, incompetent, and ultimately moronic"....something to that extent...

that pretty much sums up whatever i have to say about cliques, ah but it feel so good to be in a clique -- you feel secure, safe, accepted, understood, welcomed, righteous (usually) and good about yourself (and being convinced that you are still individual -- bullsh*t) ;D

wow, that's like so trendy in our era! even though i'm just kidding with ya, but it's pretty much true! zeitgeist if you will! ;D ( no sarcasm )

aelka

*gasp* you know how hot I am? *no.*
I am sure if we just follow our gut instincts, we'd find what we like as they are, without being affected too much by the commercials...... ;) I mean, I random download anything from anywhere, and I know I like rammstein because I listen to a lot of their stuff, enjoyed it a lot, before knowing the band name...and aphex twin, and towa tei, and stock 7, and ATC...and all the combinations~
And don't read any magazines: that way, you'd dress the way you really enjoy to look like!

ok, to end my comments about trends once and for all, this is my outlook on trends:

trends, fashion, dirty socks and god knows what exists only in terms of concepts, not unlike money...therefore, if people do not recognize the existence of money/trends/dirty socks/ and even pornography , they cease to exist (no i'm not talking about consciously denying the concept of fashion)....

despite the fact that i'm not a big fan of the buddhists, i suppose being devoid of even these concepts should be ideal if a person would like to avoid being trendy

in another word, don't try to run away from trends or try to join trends, do as you wish, but never consciously take those choices should you wish to be not part of a trend...

for poor ol'eintrigga, he's just gonna have to listen to guns n'roses cuz he realized that it's no longer hip anymore ;)

Is There anybody out there?
Personally for dress, I just wear whatever is comfortable. If I am clean and don't smell bad, I really don't care what anyone says about my appearance.

I don't understand why the integration of cliques can be a bad thing. The more someone doesn't fit into a clique, the more well-rounded that person is, and the more individualistic that person becomes.

And I followed the same pattern as aelka for the music I listen to. I found Floyd eight years ago (ach---only 11) and didn't even know what the band members looked like for probably three or four years. I just liked the music. Same goes with Tool. I am still not quite sure what they look like to this day. And Tool isn't exactly your "kill them all" mashing band. Ever try to mosh to a 987 beat? And yet that is the beat of one of their most popular songs......just some examples.

I think that if you don't want the capitalistic nature of the world to get the best of you, just keep your mind on your interests by discovering them yourself. The world only has to influence someone if he/she wants it to.

well, i agree with floydboy on clothes, but i don't know where you live eintrigga, but around here i'm not very "trendy". i'm mostly considered odd and funny.

if i understood you correctly...you seem to be dipping into the individual vs. the community dilemma.....maybe not...

America is a very bizarre place....its entirely paradoxical in nature....this is a country that wants to be a unique individual defined within something..anything.....but at the same time achieve total equality and security for all....best of both worlds....a great example is the XMEN.....heres a bunch of totally individual characters with unique abilities that for allow unique contributions ('i feel special now!") towards a unified goal of total equality.....i may be stepping out of bounds a bit...but this concept is quite relevant to the whole 'cliques' thing....i believe this type of dichotomy is characteristic of most capitalist nations......
What if we were all pragmatic? How much of this BBS wouldnt exist? (im referring to William James' pragmatism)

What if we were all pragmatic?  How much of this BBS wouldnt exist? ?im referring to William James' pragmatism)

yup. that's why i'm enjoying every single moment of being in the berserk community -- cliques are good to be IN ;D even though i bash it a lot and i'm sure outsiders reading our forum would think that most of the stuff we talk about is awfully stupid (you talk bad english! no me speak english very perfect!)

people who know me and have read a brave new world (which i thought was silly as hell) always told me that i'm a lot like Mustafa and that "bad guy in 1984"....i don't think it's that bad, i'm just really "rational and pragmatic" that's all -- and there's nothing wrong with being a hypocrite unless we're living in a purly logical world and as long as they're not politicians (which, unfortunately, is the case), everyone hates hypocrites nowadays is because hypocrites are supermen of sorts (they're above what they say/mandate). but i say bah! .... ;)

anyhow,. in my previous post, i said no more for me on this topic....so this, i suppose, is my post-final say on cliques...
