Digitally Distributed PC games ON SALE Thread

Right now on Origin you can get ME 1 & 2, Dragon Age 1 & 2, and Dead Space 1 & 2 for $9.99 each, they're usually $19.99 on there and Steam. Speaking of which, you can get ME3 for $19.99. The only problem is you have to have Origin.

Anyway, if you missed out on one of these now might be the time to strike. I'm considering picking up Dead Space even though I've played it before. I know a lot people here really loved the first Dragon Age, is that money better spent?

Dragon Age was okay. In retrospect, I didn't think it was a very memorable game. It might be worth the money, but in my opinion it's hardly worth the 60 or so hours that you'll put into it. I think there are much better games to invest your time in. Namely, Dark Souls.

Yeah, the time commitment is holding me back more than the money, and funny you should mention Dark Souls, because that's just what I'm looking at on Steam right now. :zodd:

Get it. :rakshas:

I loved Dragon Age: Origins. The environments and spell effects look beautiful and don't require the best computer to run. There are dozens, or perhaps hundreds of different skills to use and they never rendered the game trivial. While the main story is pretty generic, I was always fascinated with all the subplots. And unlike Mass Effect, there is no Paragon/Renegade meter so you have much more freedom in all of the moral choices you make.

The game is 60 hours if you choose to do all of the side quests. If you stick to the main story it's probably around 40 hours. I don't see length as a problem, because I never lost interest while playing it.

Get the retail version unless you're waiting for a steam sale since the retail version(it includes the OST CD, poster, artbook, behind the scene CD and postcards(?)) has much more even though they are both basically priced the same and their is an optional steam activation on the retail version. So if you are a dude who likes the extra fluff then I will totally recommend getting the retail version.

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately it appears to be somewhat out of print and this is the only "Dark Souls" I can pick up locally that'll run on my PC:

Steam is selling Deus Ex games for 75% off this weekend, so you can get Human Revolution for $7.50 or the series bundle for $15.

Amazing deals, as always. I particularly loved playing through Rochard and Shatter. Torchlight is also very good for Diablo fans. It's made by the same core team that made Diablo 1-2. The soundtracks are also fantastic.

60% sale on Square-Enix titles at GOG.com. A lot of awesome stuff like Hitman, Deus Ex, and the Thief trilogy.
$2.39 for Soul Reaver is pretty good. It's just too bad they don't have the original Legacy of Kain on there.

I'd also like to give a shout out to Anachronox on that list. It's an RPG made by DOOM's Tom Hall, also the creator of Commander Keen. It's a unique third-person scifi RPG with a lot of personality. It also took some cues from Chrono Trigger (the whole development team was required to play it), and I've never thought the game got the attention it deserved.

Here's the beautiful opening cinematic if anyone is interested in a taste: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7UN-6BXvBs

Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood for $5 each is an incredible deal. Don't worry about playing AC1... Just watch the ending on YouTube. AC2 and Brotherhood are fantastic games everyone should experience.

Nice, thanks for the tip Walter! Steam always manages to suck the money out of me, even if it's something I hadn't planned to buy. :griffnotevil:

I actually liked AC1. But the quality jump between AC1 and 2 is huge. So I only meant that not having played AC1 shouldn't be a roadblock to jumping into AC2. If the series is too daunting, just catch the ending on YouTube and you'll have missed virtually nothing, plot-wise.

Hehe yeah I know (well, I don't remember you liking AC1), and it's true the jump is big. The first game's all about the engine and gameplay, the sequels add content.

You know, I have it for PS3 already. But I feel like it's worth paying $20 just to have it on the platform I prefer, because I might get around to playing it more.
My biases show. :badbone:

Battlefield 1942, for free: http://store.origin.com/store/ea/en_US/html/pbPage.play-free-games-en_US

I had some of the best multiplayer experiences of my life playing this game back in the day. Just a fantastically fun game. Not sure how it holds up 10 years later, but you can't beat free!

PS: The listing on Origin.com seems to be broken, but it's advertised on their site so... should be fixed soon.
